How to Generate/Change Your ATM PIN

The ATM card PIN or Personal Identification Number is a unique 4-digit code linked to that card. You need to generate an ATM PIN as soon as you get your debit card. The transaction will be validated if you enter the correct PIN. There are both online and offline ways to generate an ATM PIN.

Here is the step-by-step guide on how to create a debit card PIN using the different online channels, namely net banking and mobile apps:

• Through Net Banking

You can use your net banking account for ATM card PIN generation. Here are the steps you need to follow:

1. Log in to your bank’s net banking portal

2. Select the account that you wish to generate PIN for 

3. Choose the ‘Generate PIN’ option under ‘ATM Card Services’

4. Type in your choice of the four-digit PIN and click on ‘Confirm’

5. Verify with the OTP sent to your registered mobile number

6. Post authentication, you can use the generated ATM PIN to transact seamlessly

• Using the Mobile App

Some banks allow you to create your ATM card PIN using the bank’s mobile app. Here is the process to follow:

1. Log in to the bank’s mobile app

2. Choose the account for which you want to create the ATM card PIN

3. Under ‘ATM Card Services’, click on ‘Generate PIN’

4. Enter the four-digit card PIN and confirm the same

5. Verify with the OTP sent to your registered mobile number

6. Once the authentication is complete, you can use the PIN for transactions

• Through an ATM

Learning how to generate your debit card’s ATM PIN is easy, and the simplest method is to use an ATM. Ideally, you should visit your bank’s ATM and follow these steps:

1. Insert your card in the provided slot

2. Enter the temporary PIN provided by the bank

3. Click on ‘Change PIN’

4. Enter the PIN of your choice 

5. Confirm your new PIN

Without a temporary PIN, you may have to verify your identity by entering the OTP sent to the registered number. Alternatively, you may be requested to enter your account and mobile number for verification. 

Upon successful verification, you will be able to change your PIN. Now that you know how to generate your PIN through an ATM, make sure you change the temporary PIN at the earliest. This will ensure that your card does not get deactivated.

• Using the SMS Facility

Simply type the message for new PIN generation in the format specified by your bank and send it to the bank’s SMS service number. Once the request is raised, you will get a temporary OTP, which will be valid for a few hours. 

You would then need to follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Visit the nearest bank ATM

2. Insert your ATM card

3. Click on ‘Generate PIN’

4. Enter your temporary card PIN

5. Click on ‘Confirm’

6. Enter your four-digit card PIN and re-enter for confirmation

7. Click on ‘Submit’ 

In some cases, you may need to verify your identity by validating an OTP sent to your registered contact number. 

• Via Customer Care

To generate a PIN through customer care, you would have to call your bank’s customer care number and request an OTP for PIN generation against your card. You will be asked for certain details, such as your account number, card number, etc. 

Once all the details are authenticated, you will receive an OTP, which will be valid for a few hours. Follow the process mentioned below:

1. Visit the nearest bank ATM

2. Insert your ATM card

3. Click on ‘Generate PIN’

4. Enter the OTP generated

5. Click on ‘Confirm’

6. Enter your four-digit card PIN and re-enter the same

7. Click on ‘Submit’ to confirm your PIN

• How to Change your ATM PIN Online 

You can change or reset your PIN online by visiting the bank’s website and following the steps mentioned below:

1. Log in to your net banking account

2. Under the ‘Services’ tab, click on ‘Card services’

3. Look for the ‘PIN generation’ option

4. Choose the account number and verify it with the OTP sent to the registered number

5. Click on ‘Continue’

6. Enter your old PIN and click on ‘Submit’

7. Enter your new four-digit ATM PIN

8. Click on ‘Submit’ 

• How to Change your ATM PIN Offline

Here’s what you would have to do to change your ATM PIN through an ATM machine:

1. Go to your nearest bank ATM

2. Insert your ATM card

3. Click on ‘Change/Reset PIN’

4. Enter your existing ATM PIN and click on ‘Confirm’

5. Click on ‘Forgot PIN’ in case you do not remember the PIN and enter the received OTP 

6. Click on ‘Confirm’ to change the PIN

When you receive an OTP/temporary PIN on your number, cancel the transaction and insert your card again. Here’s how you do it:

1. Select your preferred language

2. Click on ‘Banking services’

3. Enter the OTP/temporary PIN and click on ‘Enter’

4. Choose the ‘Change PIN’ option

5. Enter your new four-digit ATM PIN

6. Re-enter your new PIN and you’re done!
