The Canteen Stores Department (CSD) was set up in 1948 with the purpose of providing various products, appliances, and vehicles to the soldiers of the Indian Defence Services, ex-servicemen (ESM), and their families at prices lower than the retail market. Today, there are 34 CSD depots across India that operate through thousands of Unit Run Canteens (URCs) as the direct interface to serve our forces.
