The Maharashtra Housing And Area Development Authority (MHADA) lottery scheme offers affordable housing to Maharashtrian residents. It was established under the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Act, 1976. This MHADA scheme offers low-cost houses to eligible candidates via a lottery system. The homes are offered to applicants who are segregated into income-defined groups.

MHADA Lottery Scheme 2023

The MHADA lottery 2023 has been implemented in Public Private Partnership (PPP), where the eligible applicants will also be benefited under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). In 2023, the MHADA lottery scheme has 4,083 flats on offer — of which around 93% are for applicants from economically weaker sections.

The flats offered under the MHADA lottery scheme in 2023 range from economical Chandivali flats of 204 sq. ft. to luxurious Tardeo homes of 1,500 sq. ft. The entire process of applying for the flats offered under the MHADA’s 2023 lottery scheme — right from registering under the scheme to checking the lottery results — is conducted online.

This year’s lottery scheme was announced on May 21, and since then, over 97,000 applications have been received for the 4,083 flats offered. Of these applicants, over 70,000 have paid the earnest money deposit (EMD) for the houses.

What are the MHADA Plans to Use Blockchain Technology

For the development of urban and its housing departments in Maharashtra, MHADA is a nodal agency taking the responsibility of all the involved departments.

Whenever MHADA releases any scheme for the development of housing society, it receives a huge number of documents from the beneficiaries. The main challenge or task for this agency is to keep these documents safe and secure. However, managing these documents can result in additional costs and more manpower usage.

Hence, to ease out such problems MHADA has decided to introduce Blockchain Technology which will help in managing these documents in a better way. This technology will also help to remove fraud by reducing the involvement of humans in the entire lottery process. Hence, with the help of Blockchain Technology, the entire lottery system will not be hampered in any way.
