CMCHIS - Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (Amma Health Insurance)

The Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS) was launched on July 23, 2009 for the residents of Tamil Nadu. It was initially known as Kalaingar Kaappittu Thittam. This scheme is now being implemented through United India Insurance Company from January 2022 to 2027. 

The scheme aims to provide quality healthcare to eligible individuals through a network of empanelled government and private hospitals. This helps reduce financial strain on eligible families and provides universal health coverage by integrating with the public health system.

Here are the steps you need to follow to register for CMCHIS:

1. Fill out the application form for the scheme

2. Go to the verification centre with the required documents

3. Complete the biometrics entry and update your photograph

4. Once approved, the CMCHIS card will be generated

CMCHIS covers 1,090 procedures, 8 follow-up procedures, and 52 diagnostic procedures across 800 government and 900 private empanelled hospitals. CMCHIS provides coverage for a wide range of medical expenses. Here are some of the following:

• Hospitalisation

With its extensive network of hospitals, you can claim cashless treatments at various hospitals. You get coverage of up to ₹5 Lakhs per family per policy year.

• Diagnostic Procedures

You also get coverage for diagnostic procedures, which reduces the need for additional costs, providing extra financial relief.

• Follow-up Treatment

In addition to diagnostic procedures, you also enjoy coverage for follow-up treatments. This helps you get your treatment affordably.

The Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme provides coverage for an extensive range of treatments. Here is the list of some of the treatments, illnesses, and diseases:

To claim the benefits of CMCHIS, you need to meet the eligibility requirements. Here are the criteria:

• You must be a resident of the state of Tamil Nadu

• Your name must be present on the family card

• Your family's annual income must be less than ₹1.2 Lakhs p.a.

Here are the eligible members of the family:

• Legal Spouse of the eligible individual

• Children of the eligible individual

• Dependent parent of the eligible individual

Here are the documents you need to submit to apply for the scheme:

• Original ration card and its photocopy

• Aadhaar card of all members to be included under the card

• Original income certificate

• Self-declaration of the head of the family

Follow these simple steps to like your Aadhaar card with an Update Request Number (URN):

1. If you are an existing beneficiary, you must open the tab ‘CMCHIS Online’

2. Enter your 22-digit URN in the given slot

3. Click the check box to accept to enter your Aadhaar number

4. Click on the ‘Enrol Now’, and you will be redirected to a new page

5. Select the Family member and enter their Aadhaar number and mobile number

6. Click on the ‘Submit’ button

7. You will receive a One Time Password (OTP) on your mobile number

8. Enter it in the space

9. You will get a message as ‘Your Aadhaar number registered successfully’

10. In case your Aadhaar number is already linked with URN, you will get a message that reads ‘Already Registered’

3. Enter the required details, such as the URN, ration card number, etc.

2. Click on ‘Member ID’ option under the ‘Enrollment’ tab

3. Type in your URN or Ration Card number and type in the code for verification

4. Click on ‘Search’

To access your minimum electronic medical records, use the following steps:

1. Visit the official website of the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme

2. Click on ‘Claim’ under the ‘Administrators’ bar

3. Enter your User ID, password, and captcha code

4. Click on ‘Log-in’ to access the records

A broad network of hospitals is available under the Amma Health Insurance scheme. Most claims are processed on a cashless basis, meaning you do not need to pay hospital bills yourself.

In a medical emergency, you should present your Maruthuva Kapitu Thittam Card or smart card at the hospital. This card is issued during enrollment in the scheme. The hospital will then send the relevant information to the Third-Party Administrator (TPA) or insurance company.

The CMCHIS claim amount will be settled directly between the hospital and the insurance company. This usually does not require additional action from your end.
