While the government is working on improving the medical facilities, you must also do your part in ensuring good healthcare facilities for yourself and your family by being secured with adequate health insurance. A good health insurance coverage will act as your financial back-up during a medical emergency, so that you get the right treatment without having to worry about the medical bills.
PMSSY is the acronym for the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana.
The PMSSY or Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana aims at correcting the regional imbalances in the availability of reliable and affordable tertiary healthcare services, and augmenting quality medical education facilities, especially in the under-served states.
The estimated cost of setting up the 6 AIIMS-like institutions in the first phase of the PMSSY scheme is ₹840 Crore per institution. The budget for the upgradation of 13 GMCs is ₹120 Crore (₹100 Crore from the Central Government and ₹20 Crore from the respective State Government) for each institution.
The two main components of the PMSSY scheme are setting up institutions in line with AIIMS and upgrading existing Government Medical Colleges/Institutions.
