As of July 2023, more than 25 Lakh ration cards have been issued in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. With a Jammu and Kashmir ration card, citizens can buy goods for their daily necessities.

The J&K government offers various types of ration cards that depend on a family's income and the total number of members. The Jammu and Kashmir ration card is a boon for families who face financial difficulties in purchasing food for daily subsistence. 

The ration card also works as an ID proof and residence proof for official transactions in the private and public sector.

To apply online for a Jammu and Kashmir ration card, there are a few eligibility criteria that you need to meet. These requirements are as follows:

• Should be a permanent J&K resident

• Can be a newly married couple

• Families with a ration card are not eligible 

• Couples with a temporary card can apply for a permanent ration card of Jammu and Kashmir

• Copy of Aadhaar card

• Caste certificate

• Family income proof

• Age proof

• ID proof 

• Electricity bill and gas connection details

There are various ways to check the status of ration card for Jammu and Kashmir. In case you want to use the offline mode, you can visit the PDS office. For the online method, you can check the status via the official portal by following the below-mentioned steps: 

• Step 1: Visit the official website jk.epds.nic.in

• Step 2: Select the MIS & Report section on the page

• Step 3: Choose the ration card application status report tab

• Step 4: Enter the required details (name of the district, the date, etc.)

• Step 5: Click on generate the report

• Step 6: Check the information like the name of the office and pending applications

• Step 7: Download the ration card report with family details.

Sign in with your registered ID and password or using your Aadhaar number by selecting ‘Public Login’. 

On the dashboard, you will see the option ‘Download your Ration Card’. Use it to save a copy.

• Step 1: Visit the official website - https://rcms.jk.gov.in/

• Step 2: Hover over the icon ‘Ration Card’ and select from one of two options: ‘Ration Card Search with Aadhaar ID’ or ‘Ration Card Drilldown Report’ 

• Step 3: Fill in the captcha 

Follow the instructions based on the route you have chosen and you will be able to check the required details.

• Distributed by the Public Distribution System (PDS), the application form is available online at ₹5 and can be submitted at the closest TSO or PDS office
