When buying or selling a vehicle, it is important to transfer ownership through the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Uttar Pradesh. The process varies depending on the situation.
If a vehicle is sold, the seller must notify the RTO of the transfer using Form 29 within 14 days (for transfers within the same state) or within 45 days (for transfers to another state). The buyer must apply for the ownership transfer by submitting Form 30 and the necessary documents, including Form I and Form II for interstate transfers.
In the unfortunate event of the vehicle owner's death, the legal heir must apply for the ownership transfer by submitting Form 31 to the RTO within three months of the owner's passing. Relevant fees must be paid during the application process.
If a vehicle is purchased through a public auction, the buyer must submit Form 32 to the RTO within 30 days of taking possession of the vehicle, along with the applicable fees and taxes.
While the application for a driving licence can be initiated online, you will still need to visit the local RTO office in Uttar Pradesh to provide biometric data and complete the mandatory driving test.
