Address Change on Driving Licence

If you plan to relocate to a new place, you may also want to shift your vehicle. To do so, you will have to apply to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to change the address on your driving licence. As per the Motor Vehicle  Act 1988, applying for a change of address in your driving licence and vehicle's registration certificate is fundamental.

 

You can opt for an online or offline method to change the address, for which a nominal fee of Rs 500 is charged. Under the online method, one can apply for a change of address on the Parivahan Sarathi website. As for the offline method, one can visit the RTO and apply.

 

There are a few relatively easy steps of how to change addresses on driving licence online. The following step-by-step guide will help you to change DL address online easily -

 

• Step 1: Go to the Parivahan Sarathi website (Ministry of Road Transport and Highways) 

• Step 2: Choose the name of your state and Click on the "Apply for Change of Address" option.

• Step 3: Enter your “DL Number” & “Date of Birth”. Click on ‘Get DL Details’ confirm and proceed.

• Step 4: Now select the RTO of your current address - the address present on your DL.

• Step 5: On the ‘Issue NOC’ page, select ‘Issue NOC’ - to generate it with name & other details.

• Step 6: Next, upload all your documents (including your photo and signature).

• Step 7: Select the DL slot book, check & confirm your details, and choose COV -Class of Vehicle.

• Step 8: Click on ‘Proceed to Book’. Fix RTO appointment (Date & Time) & click on ‘Book Slot’.

• Step 9: Click on ‘Confirm to Book Slot’. A message is sent on your registered mobile number. You also receive an appointment letter which you can print to carry it to your appointment.

• Step 10: Next, the payment page opens up. Select the ‘Fee Payment’ option here.

• Step 11: Click on "Click Here to Continue E-payment".

• Step 12: After completing payment online, you may print the receipt.

• Step 13: Once your application is processed and approved, you can take print of your updated driving licence from the Parivahan Sarathi website.

 

You can expect your updated driving licence 30 days from the day of approval of your application.

 

You can follow these steps to effect driving licence change of address offline -

 

• Step 1: Visit the RTO (Regional Transport Office) where the original driving license was issued. Obtain NOC (No Objection Certificate) and CC (Clearance Certificate) from the RTO. 

• Step 2: Next, an application to the RTO mentioning the change of address on the driving licence has to be written.

• Step 3: The application, along with the required documents, should be submitted at the RTO. Also, you need to pay the required fees for this process.

• Step4: Upon verification of all your documents by the RTO Superintendent, a receipt will be provided, which has to be appropriately kept until your new Driving License arrives.

 

You will receive your updated driving licence within 30 days of submitting your application.

The following are the documents required for address change in driving licence that you can keep handy for address update in Driving licence:

 

• A copy of your valid permanent driving licence

• No Objection Certificate (NOC) or a Clearance Certificate (CC) 

• Change of address form

• New Address Proof (Any of these documents - Aadhaar card / election card / passport / LIC policy / pay-slip issued by Government Organisation or Local body / Ration card etc.)

• Registration Certificate

• Valid insurance certificate

• Passport size photographs

• PUC-Pollution under Control Certificate

• Form 33

• Attested copies of PAN card or Form 60 & Form 61 (whichever applicable)

 

A processing fee of Rs.500 is usually charged as a driving licence address change fee. You can also confirm the same on the official Ministry of Road Transport and Highways website while completing your driving licence change of address online.
