Know what to do if a wrong E-Challan is issued against you.
Traffic violations are a common occurrence on the roads and sometimes might result in an accident or severe public property damage. Therefore, strict enforcement of the traffic laws by police has become a necessity. Traffic police need to ensure a smooth traffic management to check road safety and an efficient traffic system. Online E-Challan system that operates through platforms like Parivahan has revolutionised a digital process to help with this management. This is basically a digital system for issuing traffic violation fines.
You might have seen surveillance cameras installed at various points, such as junctions and signals. With the help of these cameras, traffic violations are regularly monitored, and the vehicle numbers of the traffic rule violators are captured. Subsequently, E-Challans are digitally sent to the vehicle owners' mobile numbers, allowing convenient tracking of fines via websites or apps.
E-Challan is a digital system and it is quite possible any technical errors might occur. If you've received an E-Challan for a traffic violation, it indicates that either a traffic camera or a police officer has recorded the violation. However, if you believe the fine was issued unfairly, and that you have not violated any traffic rule, such challan can be called a wrong E-Challan.
In such scenarios, you have the option to file a traffic challan complaint. However, it is recommended to file such a complaint only if you can prove your innocence.
To challenge a wrong E-Challan, you can raise a complaint and present evidence of your innocence. This enables you to approach the traffic police and file a complaint through the grievance system. Moreover, if you notice any technical issues with an E-Challan, you can bring them to the attention of the authorities as a vehicle owner. This can be done through the following:
Email Address: helpdesk-echallan@gov.in

The E-Challan portal functions consistently across all states in India, enabling both traffic police and vehicle owners to track their challans nationwide. To check the status of your ticket, follow these steps:

At times, errors occur when traffic cameras misinterpret vehicle numbers, leading to wrongful challans issued to unrelated vehicles. In such cases, filing an E-Challan complaint becomes crucial. It is therefore important to be vigilant in such scenarios.
In addition to being watchful of any wrong E-Challan getting issued in your name, you also need to be aware of your responsibilities. Obtaining an RC book, driving licence, and a motor insurance are a few things to name.
A third-party insurance is mandatory for vehicle owners according to the Motors Vehicle Act of 1988. Additionally, you can opt for a more comprehensive motor insurance plan for better financial safety for you and our loved ones.
