Know more about the traffic fines imposed by the government and e-challan system in Gujarat
Gujarat traffic police have taken action to control traffic violations in the state. Two specific measures are,
Introduction of E-Challan
Implementation of the Virtual Traffic Court
The E-Challan system by the Gujarat traffic police tracks & identifies the violators. It then imposes traffic fines, and notifies them. The notification includes details of the violation and the accompanying traffic fines.
The other one is implemented by the High Court of Gujarat. A Virtual Traffic Court is set up at the Metropolitan Courts in Ahmedabad for E-Challan. It was operationalised on 3rd May 2023. Traffic offences from the whole State of Gujarat are heard in this court.
These effective steps are helping Gujarat traffic police manage traffic in the state. Citizens are encouraged to follow traffic rules reducing the violations in the state.
Every citizen must know traffic rules and the associated traffic fines or penalties.

You might have seen the security cameras installed at the traffic signal crossings. The E-Challan system makes use of these cameras to track and identify the violators.
The system obtains live images of the traffic violations. With the help of these images, the vehicle owners are located.
Every vehicle owner has to link their vehicle numbers and their mobile numbers. This makes it easy to spot the offenders. An E-Challan is generated by the system, and the offender is notified about the violation. A SMS is sent to their registered mobile along with the fine details.
The offenders can easily pay the E-Challan via the police website or the Parivahan portal. We’ll see the details in the upcoming sections.
Virtual Traffic Court has been operational in Gujarat since 3rd May, 2023. If you fail to pay the E-Challan fine amount within 90 days, it is automatically forwarded to the servers of Virtual Traffic Court. Virtual Traffic Court issues a SMS notice against the vehicle owner and sends it to their mobile.
The benefit of a virtual court is that the person doesn't have to be physically present for hearing. Once the proceedings are done, the Virtual Traffic Court decides the fine payment.
