While it may be common to misplace or lose your bike insurance papers, it isn’t recommended to drive your vehicle without them. Let’s understand the steps you should follow in case you lose your bike insurance policy documents:
Inform your insurance company regarding the lost bike insurance documents as soon as possible. The insurer will assist you with the process to receive the duplicate policy documents.
You must file a First Information Report (FIR) at the nearest police station regarding the loss of your insurance documents. In addition, you must submit your two-wheeler insurance details such as your policy number, type of bike insurance, and the name of the insurance company.
Apart from intimating your insurance company, you need to submit a written application to request for a duplicate copy of bike insurance. Mention your bike insurance details such as the policy number, type of insurance plan, your name, etc. You can also attach the FIR and submit the application.
You can publish an advertisement in the local newspapers featuring your name, contact number, two-wheeler policy number, and registration number.
The last step is to sign an indemnity bond on non-judicial stamp papers to obtain a two-wheeler insurance duplicate copy. Make sure to check if the bond has mentioned your full name. The indemnity bond can be submitted to the insurance company along with the signatures of two witnesses.
