The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) came up with a 12-digit Aadhaar number for all citizens of India to identify and confirm whether an individual is a legal citizen of the country. UIDAI provides various Aadhaar online and offline services to the cardholders for speedy redressal of their queries and problems.

Types of Aadhaar Services Available

One can visit the official UIDAI website uidai.gov.in to avail Aadhaar services, such as selecting the nearest enrolment centre, checking the status of the Aadhaar application, online Aadhaar card downloading and more.

Verifying an Aadhaar Number

The 12-digit Unique Identification Number, also known as the Aadhaar number, can be verified online by visiting the official UIDAI website. You need to follow the below-mentioned steps in order to verify Aadhaar.

Step 1: Visit the official UIDAI website at uidai.gov.in
Step 2: Click on ‘My Aadhaar’ option and then select ‘Verify an Aadhaar Number’.
Step 3: As you click on it, a new tab will open. Enter your 12-digit unique identification number in the designated space.

Verifying Aadhaar Data Offline

To get your offline Aadhaar data file in the XML format, you are required to:

Step 1: Visit the link: resident.uidai.gov.in/offlineaadhaar
Step 2: Enter your Aadhaar number.
Step 3: Click on ‘Send OTP.’
Step 4: After OTP authentication, click on ‘Submit.’
Step 5: Your ZIP file will now be downloaded.
Step 6: Extract it after providing the password, and save it in your preferred location.
Step 7: You can now use your offline data file for offline verification.

Verifying Email ID and Mobile Number With Aadhaar

The Aadhaar online service allows the enrolled individuals to confirm their email address and cell phone number that they had submitted at the centre at the time of enrollment. Following are the steps to be followed for the verification:

Step 1: Go to the UIDAI’s official website - uidai.gov.in
Step 2: Click on the ‘My Aadhaar’ option.
Step 3: Go to the Aadhaar services option and click on ‘Verify’.
Step 4: Provide your 12-digit unique identification number and the registered email address, along with the mobile number submitted at the centre at the time of the enrollment.
Step 5: Once you enter the security captcha, you will receive an OTP for verification on your registered number.
Step 6: Enter the OTP received in the designated space. You will be able to verify your mobile number and email address.

Lock/Unlock Aadhaar Biometrics

You can keep your biometrics safe via this Aadhaar online service. If you choose to lock your biometrics, it can not be used for authentication. To avail of this service, you are required to follow the steps given below:

Step 1: Go to the UIDAI’s official website uidai.gov.in
Step 2: Click on ‘My Aadhaar’ option and click on ‘Aadhaar Services.’
Step 3: Select the option to lock and unlock biometrics.
Step 4: Provide your Aadhaar number.
Step 5: Select the option to send OTP.
Step 6: Once you receive the OTP, enter the same in the designated space to either lock or unlock your Aadhaar biometrics.

Checking Aadhaar & Bank Account Linking Status

In order to check Aadhaar & bank account linking status you are required to follow below steps:

Step 1:Go to the UIDAI’s official website - uidai.gov.in
Step 2:Click on ‘My Aadhaar’ option and select ‘Aadhaar Services’.
Step 3:Click on ‘Check Aadhaar and Bank Account Linking Status’.
Step 4:Enter your Aadhaar number.
Step 5:Provide the security code.
Step 6:You will receive an OTP.
Step 7:Once you provide the OTP, the online UIDAI service portal will furnish details of bank account linking after gathering the data from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) portal.

Checking Aadhaar Authentication History

To know the details of your Aadhaar authentication history, you can follow the steps mentioned below:

Step 1:Go to the UIDAI’s official website - uidai.gov.in
Step 2:Click on ‘My Aadhaar’ option and select ‘Aadhaar Services.’
Step 3:Now click on ‘Aadhaar Authentication History.’
Step 4:Provide the security code and select the option to generate OTP.
Step 5:You can view your Aadhaar authentication history, once the OTP is verified.

Virtual ID Generator

To prevent your Aadhaar details from being misused, you can generate a temporary code for Aadhaar verifications. This 16-digit code is also known as the Aadhaar virtual ID. Just follow the below-mentioned steps in order to generate a Virtual ID:

Step 1:Visit the official UIDAI website - .uidai.gov.in
Step 2:Click on ‘Aadhaar Services.’
Step 3:Click on ‘Virtual ID Generator.’
Step 4:Provide your Aadhaar number.
Step 5:Click on ‘send OTP.’
Step 6:After OTP authentication, select the option to ‘Generate/Retrieve VID.’
Step 7:You will receive the 16-digit virtual ID on your registered mobile number.

Aadhaar Services on SMS

You can use the SMS facility to avail the various Aadhaar services, such as locking/unlocking biometrics and receiving OTP and virtual ID generation. All you need to do is send an SMS in the prescribed format to 1947 from your registered mobile number.

To lock your Aadhaar number using SMS services, you are required to follow the steps given below:

Step 1: First, obtain the OTP by sending “GETOTPLAST” along with the last four or eight digits of your Aadhaar number to 1947.
Step 2: Now, to initiate a lock request, SMS “LOCKED” along with the last four or eight digits of your Aadhaar number.
Step 3: You will now receive a message confirming that your Aadhaar number is locked.
Step 4: Now all authentications, including biometric, demographic and OTP, are locked. You can now only use authentications through your virtual ID.

To unlock your Aadhaar number using SMS services, you are required to have your recent virtual ID. Next, you will be required to:

Step 1: Make an OTP request by sending “GETOTP” along with six or ten digits of your virtual ID to 1947.
Step 2: You can then initiate an unlock request by sending “UNLOCKED” along with six or ten digits of your virtual ID to 1947.

Step 3: You will receive a confirmation message that your Aadhaar number is unlocked.
