Vehicle Registration at Punjab RTO

All vehicles should be registered at Punjab RTO to drive them on the roads of Punjab. You can register a vehicle temporarily (issued by the vehicle dealer and valid for one month) or permanently (issued by RTO and valid for 15 years from the date of registration). Read ahead to know the Punjab RTO vehicle registration details.

  • Locate the RTO responsible for your area.

  • Visit the concerned RTO with the relevant documents.

  • Pay the applicable taxes and fees.

  • Submit the forms and documents at the RTO office.

  • After verifying the submitted documents, the RTO will register your vehicle and provide you with the registration number of the vehicle.

The forms and documents required are;

  • Form 20 or application form for new registrations

  • Form 21

  • Form 22A or roadworthiness certificate of the vehicle from the manufacturer

  • Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certificate

  • Address proof

  • Invoice of the purchase, if life-tax is applicable

  • Custom Bill, in case of an imported vehicle

  • Vehicle insurance documents

  • Applicable registration fee

Vehicle insurance is mandatory for registering and driving around your newly purchased vehicle. There are two types of vehicle insurances;

  • Third party policy insurance -

The cheapest insurance plan and it will only cover any damages caused to the third person during the accident and not damage caused to own vehicles.

  • Comprehensive policy insurance -

More expensive as it is customized and covers both third-party and own damages.

The cost of the vehicle insurance in Punjab depends on the vehicle, type of insurance and insurance provider. It is very important that you choose the right one. You can compare and choose a vehicle insurance policy that caters to your needs through Bajaj Markets.
