The Indian Financial System Code, better known as the IFSC code, is an 11-digit alphanumeric code used by electronic payment systems to transfer funds from one bank account to another through NEFT, RTGS and CMFS. It is a unique code assigned to every bank branch participating in NEFT by the Reserve Bank of India. No two branches can have the same codes.

Let us take a look at the Kotak Mahindra Bank IFSC Code. The initial 4 letters of a Kotak Mahindra’s IFSC code are ‘KKBK’, the remaining 7 letters refer to the branch code. For example, the Nicholson Road Ambala Cantt branch of Kotak Mahindra has the IFSC code KKBK0000288, where ‘0000288’ is the code of the branch. Using IFSC, the RBI tracks all electronic and banking transactions like NEFT, RTGS, and IMPS of all Indian banks seamlessly.
