Also known as a foreign transaction charge, this mark-up fee is levied by card issuers on all transactions in foreign currencies. This charge is also applicable when you make purchases using your card with foreign merchants.
The fee ranges from 1.5% to up to 3.5% of your total transaction amount. Remember, you have to pay a GST of 18% on all foreign transaction fees. To understand this better, consider a hypothetical example.
